Abstract

This study aimed to expound on the cruciality of language in digital communication in line with the emerging linguistic controversy on how language reinforces and perpetuates power online. This is in pursuit of exploring how online editorials establish and organize the texts through the utilization of Metadiscourse markers in a call for media activism such as mass mobilization and political action in promoting social and political change incorporated from the language use. A Corpus-Assisted Discourse Analysis was used in analyzing the corpora. The analysis of the three editorials revealed that it employs a significant frequency of Interactive markers over the utilization of Interactional metadiscourse markers. Garnered the highest frequency count among them are the Code glosses which paved the organization of statements between paragraphs and the Boosters which appeal for certainty to convince the readers. The metadiscourse markers in the editorials selected have contributed a profound degree to ensuring the cohesion and coherence of the text which strengthened the foundation of the means to call for mass mobilization and political action.
